Some 'secret' codes are Android system code, and usually start with an asterisk (*) or pound symbol / hashtag (#). You do not have to connect to a network to use them, because they are only for the Android system on your device. These codes are updated regularly because new versions of Android software are released, and some manufacturers have additional special codes.
