What is Google Hangout?
Google Hangouts is a communications platform developed by Google that includes messages, video chat, SMS and VoIP features. It replaces three messaging products in addition to its services, including Google messaging, Google Messenger (formerly: Huddle) and Hangouts.
Hangout is a video chat system within Google+. Google has also stated that Hangouts is designed to make "the future" of its telephony product, Google Voice, and has already integrated some Google Voice capabilities in Hangouts. Users can send messages through their Google+ accounts.
History:
On February 16, 2015, Google announced that it will close Google Talk and instruct users to migrate to the Hangouts app on Chrome browser platform.
In January 2016, Google disappointed by using Hangouts for Hangouts, instead using Google's "Messenger" SMS app.
In May 2016, in Google I / O 2016, Google announced two new apps: Google Aloe, a messaging app with AI capabilities (AI-powered bots and selfie features and Google Duo, a video calling app. Has confirmed that the new app will not replace Hangouts, but it will remain a separate product.
Google's pixel and pixel XL smartphones will ship with Google Duo and Aloe instead of Hangouts.
On January 6, 2017, Google announced that Google Hangouts API will be shut down on April 25, 2017.
On March 9, 2017, Google announced that it will develop Hangouts in two products: Hangouts Meetings and Hangouts Chat Hangouts will focus on meeting video conferences and Hangouts Chat will be focused on instant messaging with additional features such as bot assistant and threaded messaging. Features will be targeted to business customers while consumer versions will use a freemium model.
